Take part in Voyages of Discovery-themed craft activities linked to the Museum’s collections (4-10 years, but all welcome).

Community Arts Event in Priory Memorial Gardens - FREE except where indicated otherwise
SATURDAY 29 SEPTEMBER Creative Royston 1-4pm (#2)
Join our community arts event where we will celebrate music, art, dance and craft, offering you the opportunity to try something new! Try your hand at music making with Royston Town Band, create some beautiful sgraffito coasters with Glazed Creations, or get your body moving in our special dance classes for the young and young-at-heart with DanceMatters and BEEE Creative. Or simply come and enjoy the musical and dance entertainment, bouncy castles, free face painting and henna tattoos, refreshments from around the world and art display by Paul Human.
PERFORMANCES:
1pm – Royston Development Band on the Band Stand
We might be beginners but we love to perform! Bring your picnic rug, a few drinks and enjoy a varied programme from a talented bunch of local musicians.
1:30pm–4pm Enjoy performances in the arena and around the site from Crystalites Majorettes, Gog Magog Molly Dancers and a very special First Schools Showcase, including students from Barkway, Barley, Icknield Walk, Reed, Roman Way, Studlands Rise, Tannery Drift and Therfield.
WORKSHOPS and SHOWS: No booking required
1pm-4pm – A Series of Ancient Dance and Time-Worn Stories and Music performed by TaBard [30 minute sessions] FREE Dance, stories and music for all ages by returning favourite master storyteller, Dave Tonge, the Yarnsmith of Norwich, and his Minstrel Extraordinaire, Trevor James.
1pm-4pm – sgraffito coaster project with Glazed Creations
Come create your own masterpieces on coasters and learn a fun new technique in the process, sgraffito! Once you’ve covered your colourful tile with a dark colour, simply scratch back the dark paint to discover interesting patterns and colours underneath. All ages welcome. £2 per coaster, £6 for three.
1pm-4pm – Eco crafting and Discovery Wall FREE
Dive into a pile of boxes and get creating. We’ll have everything you need to build a ship/car/rocket/anything you like to take you on your very own voyage of discovery. Or simply pop along and write or draw something about your own discoveries and add it to our Discovery Wall.
1:30pm–4pm – Dance Tent with DanceMatters and BEEE Creative FREE
A series of workshops to get you moving, for the under-fives (1.30pm and 2.40pm) and the over-50s (2pm and 3.10pm). Don’t let the label fool you, though: while the over-50s session has been created to help the older generation get moving, all are welcome to give it a go!
1:45pm–3pm – Give Brass a Go - Royston Town Band FREE
Always wanted to try playing a brass instrument? Visit us to learn a few brass-playing basics and have a blow on a selection of brass-band instruments. You might be a natural!
