Find out how science is used in art, and how beautiful science can be. The Cambridgeshire Branch of theBritish Science Association demonstrate hands-on experiments for all ages to take part in. Drop in for five minutes or stay all morning!

Royston Photographic Society Exhibition

Members’ photographs: a wide-ranging exhibition with an open theme. Also, new for this year, there will be the chance to see the winning entries in our town-wide competition, Crossing the Line.

 

2011 Face of RoystonFace of Royston

Your chance to be part of the Face of Royston (now in its third year). Members of the Royston Photographic Society will be taking photographs of people in Royston town centre, whether visitors or locals. Pictures will be displayed on a large TV at the Market Hill Rooms and in the town centre. Last year the number of pictures exceeded 1000.

Manga is a cartoon art form that originated in Japan. Learn the basics with Irina Richards, a member of Sweatdrop Studios, the UK’s most prominent manga artist collective. Join in and feel inspired to create your own manga characters!

(also Sunday 2 – 4.45pm and normal museum opening times until November 4)Your chance to view some of the collages and assemblages produced when Royston Arts Festival and stART put professional artist Jo Chapman into Greneway and Roysia Middle Schools and Melbourn Village College. The exhibition also features selected works by Meridian School students.

Annual Exhibition

RAS members will be demonstrating their painting skills throughout the day. Featured Artist 2011 is Josie Camus, Caricature Artist. Refreshments served all weekend.

A rainbow of colour and design…Priory Quilters is a group of creative individuals from a variety of textile backgrounds. This exhibition includes a sale of members’ work. Crossing the AD/BC Line

Five paired images. Compare how humans saw themselves in the earliest prehistoric cave paintings and how we see ourselves today: what does it mean to be human, why do we make images and what do the images we make say about our societies?
There will also be a short discussion based on these images on Sunday, 4.30 – 5pm .

What does “Crossing the Line” mean to you? Be creative during the summer holidays: paint a picture and enter this competition with a chance to win a prize. There are three age groups: under 9s,  9-13s and over 13s. Entry forms can be found at http://www.royston-methodist.org.uk/.  All entries will be displayed and judged by local artist Nicola Hancox.

Art which portrays five episodes in the life of Jesus, exploring how he crossed the line. Pieces in various media from members of local churches, alongside other artists’ intepretations of these events.

GSTARS (Georgina Wootten’s School of Dance and Performing Arts) in a fun-packed show of Ballet, Jazz, Modern and Street Dance. Also includes performances from their Physical Theatre and Singing groups. Join them on this occasion to celebrate the school and help them raise funds for their debut performance in the West End next year!

An exciting display of crime fiction, novels, illustrated children’s books, travel, biography, archaeology and works on spirituality – all by local authors, many of whom will be talking about their work and signing copies of their books.

Special opening: see the amazing medieval style carvings by candle light. This is a rare chance to see the Cave as it must have been hundreds of years ago.
