Picasso’s Guernica (Professor Anthony Slinn)

Probably Picasso’s most famous work, “Guernica” is certainly his most powerful political statement. Painted as an immediate reaction to the Nazi’s devastating casual bombing practice on the Basque town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War, it was described by Graham Sutherland as ‘the greatest painting of the twentieth century’. In this lecture Anthony will take you to Guernica, New York and Madrid, taking you behind the scenes to show you the creation of the painting and following its journey around the globe. This will be Anthony’s fifth and final appearance at The Royston Fringe, so unmissable.
