Local writer J.S.Watts will read three of her published short stories, all linked to the theme of time, across three days in Festival week: Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The Cann Twins on Two Pianos
The international twin pianists, whose career has taken them to Japan, U.S.A., Australasia and the Middle East, make a welcome return to Royston Arts Festival following their sell out concert, last year. Their dazzling programme will include music from Swan Lake, Porgy & Bess, Alexander Cowdell’s poignant portrait of the poet John Clare (with St Mary’s School Choir), an Olympic Fanfare and Strauss’ Blue Danube. www.canntwins.com

Three times nominated in BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and winners of the 2010 Spiral Earth Awards, Megson are fast becoming hot property on the British folk and roots scene. Their infectious sound is a mix of heavenly vocals, lush harmonies and driving rhythmic guitars and mandolas. “…the most original duo on the British folk scene” The Guardian. Sarah Louise is a singer-songwriter from Meldreth who reached the semi-final stage of the 2011 Live and Unsigned national competition.

The Post Impressionists – Professor Anthony Slinn
This lecture covers the lives of the most renowned painters of the era: Cezanne, Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas, Manet and Gauguin. Be imbued with Anthony’s passion for this rebellious and talented group of painters who took Impressionism into new areas of painting – even to ‘Modern Art’.

Brass in the Park
Royston Town Band and friends
Royston Town Band will be joined by one or two bands from the local area, in their annual brass band concert spectacular. Each band will play their own individual programme and then all will join together for a grand finale. The music will range from the traditional, big band, popular, show and film: something to suit all tastes.

It’s Sunday afternoon…why not settle down for a nice cuppa and a piece of cake with Wendy Cope, one of Britain’s best-loved poets? Known for her humorous and poignant take on life and relationships, BBC Radio 4’s Poetry Please listeners voted Wendy Cope their number one choice for Poet Laureate. Her poems have been set to music by Jools Holland and, closer to home, were discussed by Royston’s combined book groups as part of the 2009 festival. During the interval tea and cake will be served (included in the ticket price). Book early!
Wendy Cope’s books will be available to buy on the day from a stall run by David’s Bookshop (Letchworth’s independent book-seller).
