Staging Royston Arts Festival each year is the main but not the only activity of Creative Royston and in 2017 we supported the Royston Folk Club Young Artist Competition which featured many talented young musicians. The winners were ‘The Trials of Cato’ who received £500 and Creative Royston put up the second prize of £250 which was won by Katie Spencer. Carl Filby, our Secretary and MusicFest organiser, was fully involved and co-ordinated the judges and markings throughout the competition which took place during the Folk Club ‘showcase’ evenings from April through November on the second Friday of each month.

The prizes were presented at the Folk Club Christmas Party in December (click on the above photos for larger images) and ‘The Trials of Cato’ will feature in a Folk Club concert at The Old Bull in Royston on Friday 26th January (see link to Folk Club below) with Katie Spencer featuring in an August concert. A similar competition and further collaboration later this year is currently under discussion.
